Perhaps one of the most complicated parts of the good interior design is discovering the right furniture to fit any given space. Furniture pieces are the investments we make in our decorating ideas because when you buy one piece, you typically use it for several years, if not at least a decade (and sometimes even longer,) before you replace it. That being said, there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to find the right pieces for every space in your home.
"Matchy‐Matchy". The rule of thumb: remember that every room in your home does not have to be the same. Just because you've decorated your bedroom design with traditional and ornate almost Baroque or Victorian styled pieces, doesn`t mean that has to happen in your living room designs! You can easily use modern furniture pieces in one room and vintage pieces in another, followed by antique styles in another! There is no rule that says you must have the same exact interior design style throughout your entire space.
Take Note of Fabric. No matter what room you´re placing an item in, you always, always want to take note of the fabric and how it will hold up to your lifestyle. Just because you‘re willing to pay for that gorgeous silk settee that keeps appearing in your living room design ideas, doesn’t mean that your cat won′t use it as a giant, extra silky scratching post. (Remember, even declawed cats can ruin delicate fabrics.) Choose a fabric for your upholstered furniture that will withstand what you need it to withstand, whether it’s the headboard for a bedroom design or the dining chairs for your dining room design. This means taking accountability for children, pets, spouses and if necessary, frequent guests.
Quality Versus Quantity. It goes without saying that when you make large purchases, especially with furniture, that you opt for quality over quantity. For example, if you‵re purchasing a sofa that you hope will blend into your living room design ideas, you′ll want to choose one that is of good quality. One that will last for many years. Sofas are expensive and even a sofa of modest quality can go for more than $1,000.
So keep this in mind, know what makes your particular furniture piece high quality, whether it's a kiln‐dried frame or an antique, real solid wood dining table, because it`s always better to pay more for good quality furniture than it is to settle for multiple pieces of lower quality furniture that will inevitably have to be replaced (a lot sooner than you´d think.)
Size and Scale. Another good tip to remember is to pay attention to the size and scale of your furniture in relation to the size and scale of the given room. For example, living room designs with overstuffed, oversized furniture can look cluttered and tiny. Opt for furniture that is sleek and sized appropriately to fit the space. This should ring true for every room you are working in.
Remember, furniture is an investment. It is an opportunity to start building a room you will love, it shouldn‘t be taken upon likely. Shop around, look for the right piece. Don’t ever settle unless you′re sure it is of good quality and suits your space, your tastes and of course, your budget.
